Boarders come to Tettenhall College from all over the UK
and the world. Our world wide appeal has seen us receive pupils
from Moldova, Germany, Spain, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Russia,
Dominican Republic, Brazil, Korea, Kenya and Thailand.
40-50% of our boarding population are sons/daughters of service personnel - providing stability for their education
We believe in the education of the whole person and the importance
of boarding as part of this process. Citizenship and social
responsibility are important elements in a boarding environment
and we aim to equip our boarders with these skills.
At present we have 38 girls and 53 boys
We offer great flexibility in terms of boarding, offering
full boarding, weekly boarding and day boarding. We aim to
cater for all the needs of our families.
Full boarding: 7 days per week boarding for each term, going
to parents or guardians at half term.
Weekly boarders: 5 days a week boarding returning to parents
or guardians for the weekend.
Day Boarders - tea, prep and collected by 7.30pm
Occasional boarding: we can accommodate pupils from a few days to a week at a time when parents are away on business etc.
Junior Boys are housed in shared rooms, while Sixth Form
boys have their own study bedrooms.
Girl boarders are accommodated in shared or single study
bedrooms in the purpose built Thorneycroft House.
Each House has recreational facilities, kitchens, quiet
study areas and television areas.
We offer a varied programme of social and cultural activities
including paintballing, Alton Towers, ten-pin bowling, cinema,
walks in the Shropshire countryside, cultural trips to London,
theatre trips, visits to Ironbridge Gorge local museums and
art galleries. This year we plan to visit the Medieval Christmas
Fayre at Ludlow Castle as well as Snowdonia national park.
In addition to the organised activities the boarders have
access to school facilities at weekend, including the Sports
Hall and Swimming Pool.
Within the two Boarding Houses we have a Housemaster and
Housemistress and resident house tutors. Nursing staff are available 24 hours per day and
all boarders are registered with a local doctor and dentist.
For many pupils their housemaster or mistress becomes a surrogate
parent, they can be assured that there is always someone to
talk to and share their concerns and celebrations.
All staff aim to fulfil their ‘duty of care’
to the highest standard and always seek to ‘safeguard
and promote’ the welfare of each individual.
The School Chaplain is no longer resident but he is still involved in the pastoral support.
We are a small family which enables us to create a family
atmosphere. We aim to expand individual horizons and offer
cultural diversity.
